چکیده
OLIMPO is a 2.6 meter on-axis millimeter-wave Cassegrain telescope, mounted on an attitude controlled stratospheric balloon payload. This telescope is designed to be flown with a > 10 days Long Duration CircumPolar flight. The system contains 4 arrays of bolometers in the wavelength bands centered at 150, 220, 350, 600 GHz. The instrument will be diffraction limited at 150 GHz (3.5 arcminutes FWHM). It is currently planned to have a test flight from Trapani in

A Gravitational Lens Survey with the Planck Surveyor
The Planck Surveyor cosmic microwave background (CMB) imaging mission will make very sensitive maps of the whole sky at microwave, millimetre (mm) and sub-mm wavelengths. The steep source counts expected in the highest frequency Planck bands are likely to be associated with a strong magnification bias, and so the fraction of galaxies magnified by a factor of two or more could be greater than 10...
متن کاملSearch for Calibrators for the Submillimeter Array: I. High-Mass Star Forming Regions
We present initial results of an ongoing search for interferometric calibrators at submillimeter (sub-mm) wavelengths with the Submillimeter Array (SMA). Powerful radio galaxies are commonly used as calibrators at centimeter and millimeter wavelengths, but many are not strong enough to serve as calibrators at sub-mm wavelengths because of their rapidly declining flux densities toward shorter wa...
متن کاملThe effect of focal spot size on the spatial resolution of variable resolution X-ray CT scanner
Background: A variable resolution X-ray (VRX) CT scanner provides a great increase in the spatial resolution. In VRX CT scanners, the spatial resolution of the system and its field of view (FOV) can be changed according to the object size. One of the main factors that limit the spatial resolution of VRX CT scanner is the effect of the X-ray focal spot. Materials and Methods: A theoreti...
متن کاملThe local FIR Galaxy Colour-Luminosity distribution: A reference for BLAST, and Herschel/SPIRE sub-mm surveys
We measure the local galaxy far-infrared (FIR) 60-to-100μm colour-luminosity distribution using an all-sky IRAS survey. This distribution is an important reference for the next generation of FIR–submillimetre surveys that have and will conduct deep extra-galactic surveys at 250–500μm. With the peak in dust-obscured star-forming activity leading to present-day giant ellipticals now believed to o...
متن کامل350μm observations of local IRAS galaxies using SHARC-II
The cosmologically significant population of dusty galaxies detected at sub-mm and mm wavelengths by SCUBA and MAMBO have played a central part in many of the discussions at this workshop. Obtaining their redshifts is critical in understanding their role in galaxy formation and evolution, but this is a challenging task. Nevertheless, Chapman et al. [1] have made significant progress by obtainin...
